The Reverend James Chapman was pastor of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Perth Amboy, N.J. from 1811 until 1842. Rev. Chapman was also the treasurer of the Episcopal Society of New Jersey for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge and Piety. The Society was modeled after the work of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, the greatest and most important society within the Church of England. St. Paul's Church, currently located at 466 High Street in Newark, New Jersey, was founded in 1852 as a chapel with a schoolhouse. The original property, a farm, was given to this Episcopalian parish as a gift of Jeremiah C. Garthwaite. In 1856, efforts were made to build a church, which was finally completed in 1889. Bayard, Lewis P. (Lewis Pintard), 1791-1840

Lewis Pintard Bayard was born in Pennsylvania on July 23, 1791. He was first ordained a deacon on August 2, 1812, and later ordained a priest in Trinity Church in July 1815. His was the first ordination ceremony to be held at Trinity Church since its inception. Bayard served as rector of Trinity Church from 1813 to 1820. He subsequently served as rector of Episcopal churches in New Rochelle and Geneseo, New York and as principal of the high school at Geneseo. He died September 21, 1840 at the Is...
